If You Don't Have Video On Your Non-Profit Homepage You Are Costing Yourself Dearly
In 2017 over 70% of ALLonline traffic will be video. We probably could stop right there.
Non-profits have to engage their user base and supporters, plus they are constantly searching for new donors and members. For this reason it is mission critical that you have a high quality video that is 1 to 2 minutes in length on your website's homepage and it needs to be optimized for mobile viewers as well.
Educating your user base is a good secondary goal for videos but until you have loads of donors and cash their primary purpose should be fundraising.
YouTube statistics show that the average video retains 60% of its viewers for one minute and 50% for two minutes but after three minutes the viewership craters to 38% or less. This means you have between 1 and 2 minutes to tell your story and create a compelling message followed by a call-to-action. People aren't going to watch a 3 to 5 minute video even if it is interesting. Your supporters are crunched for time, they want to hear your message concisely, delivered quickly and then know what you are after.
